The five-category system
Sort everything into exactly one of five categories as you go, and resist the urge to create a “decide later” pile — it grows to swallow the whole project:
- Keep — comes to the new home.
- Family — goes to a specific relative; assign it a name and a pickup date on the spot.
- Sell — genuinely valuable items worth the effort of a sale.
- Donate — usable items with no home found in the first three categories.
- Discard — everything else.
Work room by room, not category by category

Sentimental items and family disagreement
